De Pree, Max

Max De Pree is chairman emeritus of office furniture manufacturer Herman Miller, Inc., a leader in both product design and organizational innovation. De Pree pioneered the use of profit sharing, gain sharing, work teams, and other participatory management practices. He emphasizes the spiritual, relational, and ethical dimensions of leadership. He affirms the role of leaders in nurturing their institutional environment and in developing a learning and caring organization. He maintains that the primary task of leaders is to become faithful servants in their institutions who give priority to developing the leadership potential of those around them. Drucker, Peter F.

Drucker was a guru in the area of management with nonprofit organisations. In particular he wrote about leadership, the use of information and sharing of knowledge. His first books, in the 1960s, were highly influential. His work is promoted through the Peter F. Drucker Foundation for Non Profit Organizations, which publishes the quarterly journal, Leader to Leader. Two articles from each edition are available free online at the web site.
